A thirty-four-year-old man from Hornchurch has been convicted after pleading guilty to religiously aggravated assault, fear of violence, and harassment following an incident in Enfield. The man assaulted and threatened members of the public while asking one victim if he was Jewish. Three people, aged fifty-three, fifty-eight, and twenty-six, sustained injuries that did not require hospital treatment.
Prosecutors said the attacker shouted threats targeting the Jewish community, describing the incident as a terrifying ordeal for those present. Authorities emphasized that hate crimes harm not only direct victims but also spread fear throughout entire communities. Prosecutors confirmed they will seek a harsher sentence to reflect the religiously aggravated nature of the offenses.
The Metropolitan Police stated they are working closely with the Jewish community to provide reassurance and ensure safety. The force recently deployed additional officers and made several arrests following a rise in antisemitic incidents across the capital.
