The third round of peace negotiations between Israel and Lebanon concluded its first day after eight hours of talks at the United States State Department in Washington. Delegations from both countries are scheduled to continue discussions on Friday.
A State Department official described the talks as productive and positive, expressing hope for further progress. An Israeli official said the discussions are focused on exploring a framework for a potential agreement in greater depth.
This round marked the first time military representatives participated in the negotiations. The meetings come just before the expiration of a three week extension to the ongoing ceasefire announced on April 23 by the President of the United States.
The talks are being mediated by senior United States officials, with delegations from both Israel and Lebanon that include ambassadors and military representatives.
