The comments came after a meeting in Beijing, where the two leaders discussed China’s relationship with Iran and rising regional tensions.

Trump said Xi also expressed support for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global oil shipments that is heavily used by China. According to Trump, Xi indicated that he would be willing to assist in brokering a resolution to the conflict if needed.

The president renewed his call for Iran to reach an agreement to prevent further escalation, urging its leaders to make a deal before the situation worsens.
