Iran's ambassador to Cairo, Mojtaba Ferdowsi Pour, said that Tehran is in discussions with the Sultanate of Oman over joint management of the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway for global energy shipments. The talks focus on coordinating oversight of the strait amid heightened regional tensions.
In an interview with Al Jazeera, Ferdowsi Pour stated that the strait remains open to countries considered friendly to Iran, but not to what he described as hostile states, including the United States and Israel, as well as their supporters. He said that Iran still considers itself in a state of war despite the presence of a ceasefire or relative calm.
The ambassador emphasized that Iran seeks to end the fighting and opposes continued war, while maintaining its position on restricting access to adversarial countries.
