The average price of unleaded petrol has climbed to 158.52 pence per litre, marking its highest level since the beginning of the Iran war. Prices initially surged after the conflict started on 28 February, as missile strikes and drone attacks disrupted energy production and transportation across the Middle East.
After peaking at 158.31 pence per litre on 15 April, petrol prices briefly fell by more than a penny before rising again at the start of May. The motoring organisation has warned that prices could reach at least 160 pence per litre in the coming weeks unless there is a dramatic and sustained drop in global oil prices.
