The commander of the Israel Defense Forces Southern Command reduced by 10 days the prison sentence of a Nahal Brigade soldier who was disciplined for wearing a 'Messiah' patch on his uniform. The decision followed recommendations from both the Nahal Brigade commander and the commander of the 162nd Division.
The sentence was shortened after the brigade commander personally visited the soldier in military prison, where the soldier accepted responsibility and expressed remorse for his actions. His willingness to acknowledge wrongdoing contributed to the mitigation of the punishment.
The soldier had previously appealed the sentence, arguing through his attorney that wearing an unauthorized patch should be classified as a uniform violation that does not warrant imprisonment for a first offense. His appeal was rejected by the division commander before he separately requested leniency from the Southern Command chief.
