The 21 year old suspect was killed after exchanging gunfire with officers near the gates of the presidential residence.
Authorities identified the suspect as Nasire Best, who allegedly opened fire at a security checkpoint after pacing near 17th Street Northwest. According to reports, he fired multiple rounds toward officers before being shot dead at the scene. He reportedly identified himself as Jesus Christ during the incident.
Trump described the White House as the nation's most cherished structure and said the incident underscored the need for stronger security measures for future presidents. The shooting occurred while he was inside the White House engaged in diplomatic discussions concerning Iran and a proposed peace framework involving several Middle Eastern nations.
