Arab parties urge Ra'am to join efforts to revive Joint List ahead of elections

Three Arab-majority political parties — Hadash, Ta'al, and Balad — have renewed their call for the Islamist Ra'am party to join efforts to revive the Joint List ahead of upcoming national elections. While the three parties expressed readiness to unite, they acknowledged significant disagreements with Ra'am, particularly over its willingness to join a governing coalition after the vote.

The Joint List, first formed in 2015, previously unified the four parties and at its height became the third-largest faction in parliament. It fractured in 2021 when Ra'am broke away to join a governing coalition, and further splintered before the 2022 elections. Despite signing an agreement in January to work toward reunification amid growing concerns over violent crime in Arab communities, negotiations have stalled over Ra'am’s demand to retain the option of leaving the alliance after the election to pursue coalition participation.

The renewed push for unity comes as Arab parties face political marginalization, with most major opposition figures ruling out cooperation with Arab factions in a future government. Reports that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is seeking to outlaw Ra'am have further heightened tensions. Supporters of reunification argue that restoring the Joint List could strengthen Arab representation and mobilize voters as elections approach.
