Pro-Israel advocate Dov Hikind has called on New York Governor Kathy Hochul to deploy the National Guard during the upcoming Israel Day Parade in Manhattan, citing a recent rise in antisemitic incidents. Hikind argued that while he strongly supports the New York City Police Department, additional military support is necessary to ensure the safety of participants.
He warned that risks may extend beyond the main parade route along Fifth Avenue, noting that individuals traveling to the event while displaying Israeli flags or wearing visible Jewish symbols could be vulnerable to attacks. Several state and local lawmakers have joined Hikind in urging the governor to authorize the deployment.
However, organizers from the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York stated that they are not requesting National Guard assistance. The group expressed full confidence in the city’s law enforcement leadership and preparations to secure the 61st annual parade.
