Fuel protesters at Galway Docks have vowed there will be no step down in demonstrations as blockades enter their fourth day. Tractors remain lined across the harbour bridge, preventing fuel trucks from accessing the depot, while cars and buses are allowed through. The Galway site is one of three key facilities supplying roughly half of the country’s fuel, raising concerns about widening shortages.
Some service stations have already run out of fuel, and protesters say they are determined to maintain pressure on the Government despite severe weather conditions. Demonstrators on site have set up basic facilities and say they will continue until diesel prices are brought under control.
Protesters argue that rising fuel costs are crippling workers and families, with construction workers among those voicing support for a price cap while conflict in the Middle East affects supply. Police are monitoring the blockades, and the Defence Forces are on standby to help remove heavy vehicles if required, though demonstrators insist they will not back down.
