S&P 500, Nasdaq end at records as markets bet on US-Iran accord

Major Wall Street stock indices closed at record highs on Wednesday, extending a rally fueled by optimism over a potential accord in the conflict between the United States and Iran. The White House signaled openness to further talks, boosting investor confidence and driving broad gains in equities.

The Standard and Poor's 500 rose 0.8 percent to finish at an all-time high of 7,022.96, while the Nasdaq Composite Index climbed 1.6 percent to a record 24,016.02. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, however, slipped 0.2 percent to 48,463.72.
