Colton Herta has ruled out attempting to compete in both the Indianapolis 500 and the Formula 2 feature race in Montreal on the same day in May, ending speculation about a high-profile double attempt. Calendar changes to the Formula 2 season, prompted by unrest in the Middle East, added races in Miami and Montreal and removed a break that would have made the schedule more manageable.

Herta, who left IndyCar at the end of last season to join Cadillac as a Formula 1 test driver while racing full time in Formula 2, said his primary focus is on his commitments with Cadillac and his current championship campaign. He noted that missing key Indianapolis 500 preparations would make the effort unrealistic and that his full-time responsibilities take clear priority.

The 26-year-old American, a nine-time IndyCar race winner and the series’ youngest race winner and pole sitter, said competing in IndyCar this year would not align with his long-term goals. Instead, he is concentrating on developing in Formula 2, adapting to its different driving style and tire management demands, while also preparing for four Formula 1 practice appearances with Cadillac later this season.
