Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has challenged the authority of the United States to restrict Iran's nuclear programme, questioning the legal basis for Washington's demands. Speaking publicly, he criticised President Donald Trump, asking, 'Who is he to deprive a nation of its rights?' and arguing that Iran has not committed any crime that would justify such limitations.

His remarks come amid ongoing negotiations between Tehran and Washington, where discussions over the nuclear issue remain unresolved. A temporary ceasefire is due to expire soon, adding urgency to the talks as both sides remain divided on key points.

Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said some progress had been achieved in the negotiations but acknowledged that significant gaps persist. Iranian officials also maintain that recent military strikes by the United States and Israel violate international law and Iran's sovereignty, insisting there is no conclusive evidence that Iran breached its nuclear obligations before the attacks.
