A new report from the Legal Insurrection Foundation and the Defense of Freedom Institute for Policy Studies argues that recent executive actions targeting diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives fail to address what it calls the deeper ideological driver on college campuses: intersectionality. The authors contend that intersectionality, a framework developed in the late 1980s to describe overlapping forms of discrimination, has become embedded in hundreds of educational institutions and continues to shape policies and teaching despite federal crackdowns.
The report claims this ideology encourages judging individuals based on group identity and portrays the United States and Western society as oppressive systems. It links the spread of intersectional ideas to rising social division and even domestic extremism, citing alleged terror plots involving anti capitalist student groups that promote decolonization and tribal sovereignty.
While acknowledging prior executive orders aimed at curbing diversity, equity and inclusion programs as laudable, the authors urge the president to issue a new order explicitly naming intersectionality. They also call on Congress to hold hearings and recommend restricting federal funding for institutions that promote what they describe as discriminatory practices, while expanding support for traditional civics education rooted in American ideals.
