President Donald Trump said that Iran had halted the planned executions of eight female protesters after he publicly urged the country's leaders to intervene. In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that four of the women would be released immediately and the remaining four would receive one-month prison sentences instead of facing execution.
Trump had cited an unverified claim from a pro-Israel activist alleging that the women were scheduled to be hanged. A rights organization later reported that at least two of the women had already been released before Trump's public appeal.
In his statement, Trump thanked Iran's leadership for what he described as respecting his request as President of the United States and stopping the executions.
