The Alliance to Liberate Scotland has said that securing independence should be the top priority of the next Scottish Parliament following the 7 May election. Party leader Hazel Lyon and Glasgow candidate Tommy Sheridan are aiming to increase the number of pro-independence members returned to Holyrood.
Sheridan argued that independence is essential to tackling poverty, raising wages and improving the National Health Service. He urged voters not to give both ballots to the Scottish National Party, claiming this would benefit unionist representation, and instead called on them to back his party to keep independence at the forefront.
While the Scottish Green Party also supports independence, Sheridan criticised its record and said his party would treat independence as the central issue. He described the Alliance to Liberate Scotland as a single-issue party focused solely on achieving independence, adding that candidates are free to express their own views provided they support that goal.
