A man suspected of stabbing two Jewish men in Golders Green, north London, had previously been referred to the government's counter extremism programme, Prevent. Police confirmed that Essa Suleiman, 45, was taken into custody on suspicion of attempting to murder Shloime Rand, 34, and Moshe Shine, 76, during an incident on Wednesday morning.

The Metropolitan Police said Suleiman had been referred to Prevent in 2020, but his case was closed later that same year. Authorities have not indicated any further action taken following the earlier referral.

Officials stated that Suleiman was born in Somalia and arrived lawfully in the United Kingdom as a child in the early 1990s. He is now a British citizen and remains in police custody as investigations continue.
