A ninth person has been arrested in connection with an arson attack on Jewish community ambulances in north-west London. The 48-year-old man was detained in Leytonstone on suspicion of conspiracy to commit arson after four vehicles operated by the charity Hatzola were set alight in Golders Green on 23 March.
The attack caused explosions and around £1m in damage to ambulances and medical equipment, with nearby flats and a synagogue also affected. Prosecutors believe the fire was a targeted attack against the Jewish community. Three men and a teenager previously appeared in court charged with destroying the vehicles and remain in custody until a plea hearing in August.
Police said the arrest forms part of a wider counter-terrorism investigation into attacks on Jewish sites across London since March. Thirty-one people have been arrested in connection with incidents including assaults on synagogues, a Jewish business and the stabbing of two Jewish men. Authorities are also examining possible links to an Iranian-connected group that has claimed responsibility online, though investigators have not ruled out opportunistic claims.
