European Union crisis management chief Hadja Lahbib has called for greater humanitarian access in southern Lebanon, where ongoing Israeli military activity and evacuation orders are preventing aid from reaching affected communities. Speaking during a visit to Lebanon, she said assistance is ready but cannot reach many of those in urgent need, particularly in areas south of the Litani River.

Despite a ceasefire that took effect on April 17, violence has continued. Israeli forces are operating within a self-declared security zone extending about ten kilometers into Lebanon, while Hezbollah has announced attacks in the same region. Many villages remain inaccessible, and key infrastructure such as bridges has been destroyed, forcing aid workers to take longer routes and delaying relief efforts.

Since the conflict escalated, more than 2,750 people have been killed and over one million displaced. Lahbib stressed that international humanitarian law must be respected, noting reports of hospitals, ambulances, and journalists being targeted. The European Union has announced 100 million euros in humanitarian support and has sent multiple aid flights, with further assistance planned as the crisis continues.
