Suspects in the killing of 21-year-old Yemanu Zelka on Independence Day are expected to be indicted today, with the main suspect, a 15-year-old boy, likely to face a charge of murder with indifference. Police had previously recommended a charge of aggravated murder, but prosecutors are reportedly pursuing the lesser charge because the murder weapon has not been recovered.
A total of 16 suspects are set to be charged in connection with the attack. On the eve of the indictments, dozens of protesters, including Zelka's family members, gathered outside the State Attorney's Office to object to the anticipated charges.
Zelka, who worked at a Pizza Hut in Petah Tikva, was attacked after asking a group of adolescents not to spray party foam inside the restaurant. The group later waited for him to finish his shift, ambushed and beat him, and one of the assailants stabbed him. He died of his wounds the following day.
