Apple has agreed to pay 250 million dollars to settle a dispute with consumers who accused the company of misleading them about the artificial intelligence capabilities of certain iPhone models. Under the agreement, eligible customers who purchased iPhone 16 and select iPhone 15 devices between June 2024 and March 2025 may receive up to 95 dollars. Apple denied any wrongdoing as part of the settlement.
The legal battle began after Apple introduced its personal intelligence system, Apple Intelligence, in 2024. Advertisements highlighted advanced features, including an enhanced version of the voice assistant Siri. However, many of the promoted features were not available when new devices shipped in September 2024 and were released gradually afterward.
Plaintiffs argued that promised features such as artificial intelligence summaries were inaccurate or unreliable and that some capabilities never materialized. Lawyers claimed Apple marketed breakthrough innovations that did not exist at the time and might not exist for years.
Apple maintained that the lawsuit centered on the timing and availability of certain features. A company spokesperson said the matter was resolved so the company could remain focused on delivering innovative products and services to users.
