Lebanon's Palestinian refugee camps, long marked by overcrowding and poverty, have become relative sanctuaries amid renewed fighting between Israel and Hezbollah. Since early March, more than 22,000 displaced people, including thousands of children, have sought shelter in the camps and nearby facilities, adding to communities that were already struggling after years of economic collapse. While some camps have avoided direct strikes, others have suffered casualties and damage.

The influx has created a fragile wartime paradox. Camps in the south and around Beirut have seen a surge in economic activity as displaced Lebanese residents move in and open temporary businesses. Yet housing is exhausted, essential services are strained, and humanitarian agencies warn that funding shortfalls and reduced operations are pushing conditions closer to breaking point.

At the same time, concerns are mounting over the recruitment of Palestinian and Syrian refugees to fight alongside Hezbollah. Reports of young men killed in the south and accounts of discreet recruitment efforts have fueled fears of deeper instability within the camps. As political coordination continues between Palestinian factions and Lebanese authorities, observers warn that prolonged conflict and weakening humanitarian support could trigger a collapse of basic services and further destabilize already vulnerable communities.
