Iran has begun allowing some Chinese vessels to pass through the Strait of Hormuz after reaching an understanding over Iranian management protocols for the strategic waterway, according to the semi official Fars news agency, which cited an informed source.
The development comes as President Donald Trump meets with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing. The White House said the two leaders discussed tensions in the Middle East and agreed that the Strait of Hormuz must be reopened.
United States Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that reopening the strait is in China’s best interests and expressed confidence that Beijing will work behind the scenes to encourage progress. He said China has a strong incentive to help restore access to the vital shipping route.
