Pakistani activists and aid workers, including representatives of the Edhi Foundation, have joined a new Gaza-bound humanitarian flotilla weeks after Israeli forces intercepted a previous mission in international waters. The latest Global Sumud Flotilla departed from Marmaris, Turkiye, carrying more than 500 activists from multiple countries and a shipment of essential relief supplies.
The aid cargo includes dry food, medicines, baby formula and other critical items intended for civilians in Gaza. Saad Edhi, grandson of the late humanitarian Abdul Sattar Edhi, joined the voyage after overseeing the purchase of supplies in Turkiye.
The mission follows the earlier seizure of a similar flotilla, which drew condemnation from Pakistan and several other countries. Israel has defended past interceptions as enforcement of its naval blockade on Gaza, while critics argue the detentions and vessel seizures violate international law amid ongoing devastation and mass displacement in the territory.
