President Donald Trump has warned that 'the clock is ticking' for Iran as efforts to secure a peace deal to end the war have stalled. In a message posted on his Truth Social platform, he urged Tehran to move quickly, saying 'TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE' and warning that there could soon be nothing left if progress is not made. He is scheduled to speak with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as tensions remain high.
Earlier in the week, Trump said the existing ceasefire was on 'massive life support' after rejecting Iran's response to United States proposals, calling it 'totally unacceptable'. Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei defended the counterproposal as 'responsible' and 'generous'.
According to Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency, Tehran's proposal calls for an immediate end to fighting on all fronts, a halt to the United States naval blockade of Iranian ports, guarantees against further attacks, compensation for war damage, and recognition of Iranian sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz.
