A 36 year old man from Hackney is due to be sentenced after admitting a series of religiously aggravated offences targeting members of the Jewish community in north London. Tavius Jean Charles pleaded guilty to eight counts of threatening behaviour and criminal damage committed between October 2025 and March 2026.

Southwark Crown Court heard that he shouted death threats outside the Belz Synagogue in Stamford Hill, telling synagogue manager Barry Bard and others that he would kill them and 'all Jews'. In a separate incident, he threw a stone at a passing car driven by a man he believed to be Jewish, smashing a window and causing damage.

Prosecutors also said Jean Charles was overheard suggesting it would be good to blow up a Jewish school and repeatedly demanded personal details from members of the community while issuing threats. Victims described feeling terrified, with Bard calling him a 'danger to society' in an impact statement.

The defendant is also to be sentenced for drug offences dating back to 2024. His lawyer told the court he had developed post traumatic stress disorder after being shot in 2024.
