A man has been charged after a video allegedly showing antisemitic abuse in east London circulated on social media. Police were called to Whitechapel Road in Tower Hamlets on Friday following reports that a man shouted abuse directed at the Jewish community.

Mohamed Sibous, 18, of Schoolhouse Lane in Limehouse, was arrested on Monday and has been charged with a racially aggravated public order offence. He is scheduled to appear at Thames Magistrates' Court.

A Jewish community volunteer group said it was aware of the 'horrific video' and that officers were treating the matter very seriously. The charge comes amid heightened concern for Jewish communities in the capital following recent arson attacks on Jewish sites and a double stabbing in Golders Green, with additional police officers deployed for protection.
