Mourners gathered in the southern Lebanese town of Deir Qanoun En-Nahr to bury 14 people killed in an Israeli airstrike, the deadliest attack since a fragile ceasefire was announced last month. The victims included four children and three women, according to Lebanon's health ministry.
Among the dead were a 33-year-old man, his wife and their three young children, aged 1, 6 and 8. Relatives and residents carried photographs of the family during the funeral, expressing grief over the loss of what one family member described as 'children, angels.' Some coffins were draped in the flags of Hezbollah and its ally, the Amal movement.
The Israeli military said it targeted a Hezbollah militant inside a structure used for military purposes and stated that the area had been evacuated and that precise munitions were used. Despite a ceasefire brokered by the United States on April 16, hostilities have continued, with both sides accusing each other of violations.
Since early March, more than 3,070 people have been killed in Israeli strikes on Lebanon, including over 200 children, nearly 300 women and more than 110 health care workers. More than one million people have been displaced amid evacuation orders and ongoing bombardment, though many residents have chosen to remain in their hometowns.
