Security forces flooded the area around the White House on Saturday evening following reports of gunfire nearby. Law enforcement officers moved quickly to secure the vicinity around 17th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue Northwest, just one block from the presidential residence.
President Donald Trump was inside the White House at the time, where he was working on negotiations related to Iran. Authorities said there were no immediate reports of injuries.
The Secret Service stated it was aware of the reports and was working to confirm details with personnel on the ground. The Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation said officers were responding and that updates would be provided as more information becomes available.
