Israel Security Agency chief David Zini recently met with exiled former Gaza security chief Mohammad Dahlan during a visit to the United Arab Emirates, according to the Kan public broadcaster, citing regional and Israeli sources. The agency declined to comment on the reported meeting.
A 2024 report by the Wall Street Journal said that some officials, including figures in Israel, had supported the idea of Dahlan playing a leadership role in Gaza after the war. Dahlan, once a senior figure in the Palestinian Authority, was expelled from the West Bank in 2011 after a bitter dispute with President Mahmoud Abbas.
Since relocating to Abu Dhabi, Dahlan has become a close adviser to United Arab Emirates President Mohammed bin Zayed and has been an outspoken critic of the Palestinian Authority leadership.
