Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said it is 'deeply concerning' that Kanye West has been booked to headline all three nights of London’s Wireless festival, despite the rapper’s previous antisemitic remarks and public praise of Nazism. Starmer said antisemitism in any form is abhorrent and must be confronted clearly and firmly, adding that Britain must remain a place where Jewish people feel safe and secure.
West, who has not performed in the United Kingdom since 2015, has faced repeated backlash in recent years for antisemitic posts on the social media platform X, including statements such as 'I love Hitler' and 'I am a Nazi'. He was suspended multiple times, lost major business partnerships, and drew further criticism for promoting a swastika-branded shirt and releasing a song referencing Hitler.
In January, West published a full-page newspaper advertisement apologising to Jewish and black communities, stating that he is not a Nazi or an antisemite and that he loves Jewish people. He attributed his past behaviour to a severe manic episode linked to bipolar disorder, expressing regret and saying he is committed to accountability, treatment, and meaningful change.
