United States Vice President JD Vance said that recent high level talks with Iran in Islamabad led to meaningful progress, even though no agreement was reached. He described the discussions as constructive and noted that both sides clarified their positions, including where the United States is willing to show flexibility and where it is not.

Vance emphasized that the central issue remains preventing Iran from ever obtaining a nuclear weapon. He said the United States wants Iran’s enriched uranium removed from the country and placed under American control, arguing that this would prevent future administrations from facing the same threat. He also stressed the need for strict verification measures to ensure Iran cannot enrich uranium to weapons grade levels.

According to Vance, Iranian negotiators moved closer to the American position on key points but did not go far enough to secure a deal. He said the Iranian delegation needed to return to Tehran for further approval from senior leadership. For now, he added, the responsibility lies with Iran to decide whether it will meet the conditions outlined by the United States and move negotiations forward.
