A senior adviser to the British Ministry of Defense for the Middle East, General Edward Ahlgren, met earlier this year with Ramallah Governor Laila Ghannam for what was described as a security situation update and briefing. The meeting was revealed by an Israeli news outlet and has since sparked strong criticism.
Critics point to Ghannam’s documented participation in events honoring released Palestinian prisoners convicted of deadly attacks against Jews. In recent months, she has reportedly attended multiple gatherings expressing support for individuals freed in exchange deals after serving lengthy prison sentences for violent acts.
In response, the British Embassy said the meeting was part of ongoing engagement with the Palestinian Authority. Officials stated they were not aware of the specific allegations concerning the individuals with whom Ghannam has appeared publicly.
