Residents of southern Lebanon began returning home after a ceasefire took effect at midnight, crossing a makeshift passage over the Litani River in the al-Qasmiya area. The temporary route was set up quickly to allow vehicles to pass despite earlier threats that bridges in the area would be destroyed.
A long line of cars stretched across a bridge leading south toward Tyre, with traffic moving under the supervision of Lebanese authorities. Although many were relieved to return, the scale of destruction left some residents questioning whether it would be possible to rebuild their lives in the heavily damaged areas.
For many families, the homecoming was marked by scenes of ruin, underscoring the immense challenges ahead as communities begin to assess the damage and consider how to recover.
