Iran has rejected plans for a second round of peace talks with the United States, contradicting President Donald Trump's announcement that negotiations would resume in Pakistan. Iranian state media reported that Tehran refused to participate, citing what it described as excessive demands, shifting positions, and the continued naval blockade of its ports as violations of a ceasefire.
The diplomatic dispute escalated after Trump said United States naval forces intercepted and seized a vessel in the Gulf of Oman as part of an ongoing blockade. The blockade, in place since last week, has halted ships entering and leaving Iranian ports. Iran had briefly signaled it would reopen the Strait of Hormuz but reversed course after Washington declined to lift the maritime restrictions.
Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said negotiations with the United States and Israel were still ongoing but warned that Iran's armed forces remain prepared for conflict. The renewed tensions have left regional shipping disrupted and raised concerns about a potential spike in global oil prices as markets reopen.
