Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf declared that Iran will not engage in negotiations with the United States under threats, accusing President Donald Trump of attempting to turn talks into a 'table of surrender' while maintaining a naval blockade. He warned that Tehran has prepared new measures in response to what it views as violations of the current ceasefire.
President Trump said the United States will not lift its blockade on Iranian ports until a new agreement is reached, claiming the pressure is severely damaging Iran. He added that the proposed deal would be stronger than the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and would prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
The temporary ceasefire between the two countries is set to expire Wednesday, with uncertainty surrounding a second round of talks in Pakistan. Pakistani officials have reportedly sought a two week extension of the truce, while Iran has denied plans to resume negotiations, citing what it called excessive demands and ongoing military pressure from Washington.
