Iranian state affiliated news agency Tasnim reported that Tehran did not request an extension of the ceasefire with the United States, contradicting an announcement by President Donald Trump. Iranian officials suggested the extension could be a deception intended to prepare for a potential surprise strike by the United States or Israel, and said they are closely monitoring the situation.
An adviser to the speaker of Iran's parliament described the ceasefire extension as a 'ploy to buy time' for possible military action. The adviser also argued that the continued United States naval blockade of Iranian ports amounts to an act comparable to bombardment and should be met with a military response.
President Trump said the ceasefire would be extended to give Iran time to submit a unified proposal for a deal, while maintaining the naval blockade. He indicated the pause followed requests from Pakistani leaders and stated that United States forces would remain prepared while awaiting Iran's response. Meanwhile, planned diplomatic talks involving the Vice President were reportedly postponed after Tehran did not respond to the latest negotiating positions and rejected talks conducted under pressure.
