Rachel Goldberg-Polin: Mother of murdered hostage Hersh 'parcels out her pain' in book

Rachel Goldberg-Polin, mother of 23-year-old Hersh Goldberg-Polin who was executed by his captors in Gaza after 330 days in captivity, has written a new book titled 'When We See You Again' as a way to process her grief. She began writing after burying her son in August 2024, seeking a measure of relief from the immense pain of his loss.

Encouraged by her husband, Jon Polin, Goldberg-Polin describes the book as both a personal outlet and a response to the many people who asked how she was coping. Through writing, she found a structured way to express emotions that were otherwise overwhelming.

The book focuses largely on the period following Hersh’s funeral, chronicling what she calls the Before and After of her family’s life. It reflects on how their world was permanently altered and how they continue to navigate grief while honoring their son’s memory.
