The United States military has deployed Ukrainian counter-drone technology at Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia following a series of attacks that damaged aircraft and facilities and killed at least one service member. The move comes after projectile strikes, including one that destroyed an airborne warning and control aircraft, exposed vulnerabilities at the strategically important base.
Ukrainian officials recently traveled to the base to train American personnel on a command-and-control system known as Sky Map. The platform is widely used by Ukraine to detect incoming drone threats and coordinate interceptor drones, drawing on experience gained during four years of war with Russia.
The decision to adopt Ukrainian technology highlights how Ukraine has advanced rapidly in drone and counter-drone warfare. It also underscores ongoing concerns about the ability of American air and missile defenses to counter increasingly common, low-cost drone attacks in the region.
