The Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps released footage on Wednesday showing its naval special forces boarding the Liberia-flagged container ship MSC Epaminondas as it transited the Strait of Hormuz. The incident was one of three reported attacks on commercial vessels in the strategic waterway that day.
Between February 28 and Wednesday, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center received 35 reports involving vessels in the Arabian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, and the Gulf of Oman. Of those, 22 were classified as attacks and 13 as suspicious activity.
The maritime incidents occurred hours after United States President Donald Trump announced he was extending a two-week ceasefire with Iran indefinitely while maintaining a naval blockade. He said Iran seeks to keep the strait open for economic reasons but argued that lifting the blockade without further action would prevent any potential agreement between the two countries.
