United States military officials are preparing options for renewed strikes against Iranian infrastructure and military assets if the current ceasefire collapses, according to multiple sources. The planning focuses on targeting Iran’s capabilities in the Strait of Hormuz, the southern Arabian Gulf, and the Gulf of Oman, including small fast attack boats and minelaying vessels.

Sources cautioned that even significant military action may not be enough to fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route. One person familiar with the discussions said any decision would depend on the level of risk the president is willing to accept and whether the United States can sufficiently neutralize Iran’s military capabilities in the area.

Other options under consideration include strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure to pressure Tehran into reaching a deal, though officials warned this would mark a major escalation. Targeting specific Iranian military leaders, including the commander in chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, is also reportedly being discussed as a way to influence stalled negotiations.
