Hundreds of people gathered outside a Pizza Hut branch in Petah Tikva to protest what they described as police inaction following the stabbing death of 21-year-old employee Yemanu Binyamin Zelka. Mourners lit candles and placed flowers at the scene, while demonstrators called on the national security minister and the police to take stronger action against rising crime.
Zelka was attacked after asking a group of teenagers to stop spraying party foam inside the restaurant. According to police, the youths waited for him to finish his shift, then one stabbed him while others assaulted him or stood by. He later died of his wounds in the hospital. Seven minors between the ages of 13 and 17 were arrested in connection with the killing, though two were later released to house arrest.
Protesters and several lawmakers criticized the delay in arrests, saying it took days for police to act despite suspects' identities circulating locally. Speakers at the rally described the killing as a wake-up call and warned that unchecked violence was leaving residents fearful and eroding public safety in the city.
