Saudi Arabia is undertaking a quiet but significant diplomatic effort to discourage Lebanon from pursuing any independent engagement with Israel outside a unified Arab framework. During a recent visit to Beirut, Saudi envoy Yazid bin Farhan urged Lebanese leaders to adhere to the broader Arab consensus and the long-standing conditions outlined in the Arab Peace Initiative.
Riyadh’s firm stance against unilateral normalization could complicate efforts by the United States administration under President Donald Trump to expand regional recognition of Israel. With Lebanon’s leadership divided internally, Saudi Arabia appears intent on influencing both the timing and the terms of any potential future dialogue involving Israel.
