A 22 year old United States soldier stationed at Fort Polk in Louisiana has been arrested after allegedly threatening to carry out a mass shooting at a synagogue. Authorities said he was charged with transmitting a threat in interstate commerce following a tip received by the Federal Bureau of Investigation's National Threat Operations Center.

According to court documents, the soldier made the threats during conversations on the messaging platform Discord. In audio obtained by investigators, he allegedly described plans to enter a synagogue armed with multiple weapons and stated his intention to kill Jewish people inside.

Prosecutors said he also expressed extremist views and suggested he would carry out the attack after completing an overseas deployment. Officials have not publicly clarified when the statements were made, but the arrest followed heightened tensions after recent military actions involving the United States and Israel in the Middle East.
