Is Trump getting the full picture? Vance raises concerns over Iran war, US arsenal: Report - The Times of India

United States vice president JD Vance has raised concerns about the Pentagon's assessment of the ongoing war with Iran, particularly questioning whether the full extent of missile stockpile depletion has been disclosed to President Donald Trump. According to senior administration officials, Vance has repeatedly sought clarity on the accuracy of defence department briefings and has expressed unease about the availability of key munitions.

Reports indicate that more than half of the prewar stock of several critical weapons systems may have already been used. These include missile interceptors and long range strike systems, raising concerns about the United States' ability to respond to other potential conflicts involving China, North Korea, or Russia. Stockpiles had already been strained due to prior commitments to Ukraine and Israel.

While Trump has publicly described the military campaign as a success and insisted that weapons supplies are 'virtually unlimited,' some advisers believe defence secretary Pete Hegseth's assessments have been overly optimistic. Iranian forces have reportedly restored a significant portion of their missile launch capability following a temporary ceasefire that Trump later extended without a set end date.

Vance, who had earlier shown reservations about striking Iran, has framed his concerns carefully to avoid internal conflict within the administration. With limited public support for the war among American voters, questions over military readiness and political consequences continue to weigh on the administration.
