Petah Tikva teacher sentenced to 11 years in prison for sex offenses against student

The Central District Court in Lod sentenced Petah Tikva middle school teacher Orel Sharon to 11 years in prison after he admitted to committing serious sexual offenses against one of his students. The crimes took place over a period of about two years, when the girl was between 12 and 14 years old.

According to prosecutors, Sharon exploited his position as an English teacher to abuse the student in what should have been a safe educational environment. The investigation began after the girl filed a complaint, and the relationship ended in March 2024, shortly before she turned 15.

The sentence was issued as part of a plea agreement and also includes a suspended sentence and 90,000 shekels in compensation for the victim. Prosecutors described the offenses as a severe and prolonged breach of trust toward the student, her family, and the wider public.
