The United States military is considering deploying its new Dark Eagle hypersonic weapon to the Middle East as concerns grow over Iran's expanding missile capabilities and nuclear ambitions. President Donald Trump has stated there will 'never be a deal' unless Iran abandons its nuclear program, while reports indicate the administration is weighing a range of options, including potential special operations to secure enriched uranium.
The request to deploy Dark Eagle reportedly came from United States Central Command after Iranian ballistic missile launchers were moved beyond the reach of current American strike systems. The Army recently declared the long-range hypersonic weapon has reached initial operational capability, marking the first time the United States has a land-based hypersonic system available for potential use.
Dark Eagle is designed to travel at extreme speeds while maneuvering in flight, enabling it to strike targets more than 1,700 miles away with minimal warning and making it difficult to intercept. The system is particularly suited to targeting mobile or hardened assets such as missile launchers. While no deployment has been publicly confirmed, the move would significantly expand the Pentagon's strike reach in the region.
The development comes as the United States works to accelerate hypersonic weapons programs amid competition from China and Russia, both of which have already fielded similar systems. Defense officials say expanding and scaling hypersonic capabilities is a top priority as the military upgrades testing facilities and strengthens its industrial base.
