Tens of thousands of pilgrims gathered in Tiberias to mark the anniversary of Rabbi Meir, also known as Master of Miracles, at his gravesite overlooking the Sea of Galilee. Shuttle services transported visitors from nearby beaches as the expanded compound filled with worshippers honoring a long-standing religious tradition.

City leaders said the site has undergone a major transformation in recent years, turning what was once a less accessible and poorly maintained area into a welcoming and well-kept destination. The foundation overseeing the gravesite reported that more than 30 million shekels have been invested over the past five years to renovate the historic structure and improve facilities for the public.

Upgrades include new plazas, candlelighting rooms, public halls, a large dining area, and enhanced safety and accessibility infrastructure. Engineers reinforced the mid-twentieth century building against potential earthquakes due to its proximity to a major fault line, ensuring its long-term stability.

Architectural plans preserved the site’s historic character by incorporating traditional basalt stone and period design elements while relocating kiosks and storage areas to create an open central plaza. Organizers said the balance between ancient heritage and modern standards has made the site more inviting for returning pilgrims.
