United States President Donald Trump said that Iran is 'dying to make a deal' and expressed hope that an agreement could be reached soon. Speaking in the Oval Office, he emphasized that only a small group of people are aware of the details of the ongoing negotiations and reiterated that Iran cannot be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon.
Trump argued that preventing Iran from developing nuclear arms is critical for global security, including for Israel, the Middle East, Europe, and the United States. He described Iran’s leadership as tough but said its economy has been severely weakened and suggested that pressure could influence how long it resists reaching an agreement.
The president recently canceled an in-person meeting related to the talks and said discussions are now taking place by telephone instead of long-distance travel. He noted that while he prefers face-to-face meetings, remote conversations are more efficient.
Trump also rejected Iran’s latest proposal, which included reopening the Strait of Hormuz while delaying negotiations over its nuclear activities. He said he plans to maintain a naval blockade until Iran agrees to terms that address American concerns about its nuclear program.
