President Donald Trump said he believes Iran would use a nuclear weapon if it ever obtained one, arguing that the United States must ensure Tehran never acquires such capability. In an interview, Trump said he is convinced Iran's leadership would deploy a nuclear weapon and stressed that firm guarantees are required to prevent that outcome.
He rejected past proposals that would have allowed Iran access to nuclear material for civilian purposes, saying he would not approve providing the country with anything that could advance its nuclear ambitions. Trump warned that Iran would face severe consequences if it were to develop a nuclear weapon.
Trump also praised the military achievements of Operation Epic Fury, claiming that Iranian naval, air, radar, and air defense capabilities, as well as elements of its leadership structure, had been destroyed. Despite describing the operation as a success, he said military gains alone are not sufficient without a lasting guarantee that Iran will not pursue nuclear arms.
In addition, Trump pointed to mounting economic pressure on Iran, citing soaring inflation and a blockade that he said has halted the country's oil exports. He argued that his actions have broad international support, while criticizing other countries, including members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, for not doing more.
